I downloaded the stable USB image (twice) and dd it to two different USB sticks. When I booted to either, it would go so far as showing the SunOS banner with the copy right but it would go no further. It showed a cursor under the banner and I could get it to move down the screen by pressing enter but no installer. I then downloaded LTS USB image and dd it to one of the same USB sticks and was able to get it to boot and install.
