Hi Dan V.

Great idea on the creating a new BE and receiving the snapshot
      into it.

Being able to keep the original configuration so I can "revert" in
the event of an issue is important.

Any of the smf services I can just export out and import in the
      BE.

thanks!!
Is it possible to install omnios into a new boot

                Wow. I don't know. It's *theoretically possible* but I
think you'd have to install OmniOS on a VM, zfs
snapshot-and-send the rpool/ROOT/<be> to the OI
box, and manually construct an OmniOS BE around that
received ZFS snapshot, including adding GRUB entries.

Haven't tried it myself.
