Ok guys I did it :D poke me so we can grab a beer next time you're near my part of cyberspace, couldn't have done it without you.

Just to recap what I did so it may help out some poor soul in the future.

Basically I did the same as described below, but after the install and before updating the boot_archive I reinstalled the driver with pkgadd and alternative root with the -R switch addpkg -d cpqary3.pkg -R /j/b in my case, ran the update and tada! :D

Now I can get some sleep and figure out how to integrate the damn thing in the iso :D

Thanks guys, you were great!

Ok, the boot_archive got updated, still panicking.

I'll recap what i've done;

Booted the latest stable OmniOS image and selected shell

Then i did this

rem_drv cpqary3
rm -rf /var/sadm/pkg/CPQary3
find /kernel -name cpqary\* -exec rm {} \+ pkgadd -d /root/CPQary3.pkg

exited the shell and ran the installer, installed and rebooted. This panics on reboot.

Then i booted agan with the live image

Did zpool import -R /a -f rpool

did beadm list an beadm mount omnios /b

So i got to the root filesystem, then i executed the command below (or above ;) ) bootadm update_archive -v -R /b

This did update the boot_archive in /platform but did not boot :/

I'll keep looking.

Yes, if you update the driver in the rpool, then you must run 'bootadm update_archive' (you'd need to suffix '-R /a' if you were doing this from the ramdisk environment with rpool mounted at /a).
