If you want to, you can go with Samba and vfs:fruit. vfs:fruit has been developed by one of the main Netatalk developers and successfully overcomes a) the permissions issue b) the locking issue between Samba and Netatalk I actually haven't had the time to test that out, but I will do that in the near future.
