Apcups has been generalized for other UPS manufacturers but YMMV. You do need the libusb and libugen drivers installed. They are in the hipster repository.

Hmm, it's not an APC UPS :)? Unless it has changed since the last time I
looked at it, apcups was pretty much dedicated to APC hardware


Also, I thought the underlying issue was with the illumos usb drivers, not
the UPS management software layer?
