So you have these working on OmniOS without any issues? Did you have
to install any particular drivers?

Intel now has the converged X540 adapters out, e.g.:

The computers are all within a few meters, so cat6 patch cables would
be convenient, and length won't be an issue.

Also, has anyone had any experience with the Netgear XS708E switch? It
seems to be the only one that is reasonably priced for small networks
at the moment.
